Mentorship

When Something in Life Keeps Asking for Your Attention

You don’t have to separate yourself into roles before asking for support.

You may arrive because of something happening in your family, your work, a relationship, a volunteer commitment, your faith, or a season of change.

Mentorship gives you a steady, confidential relationship in which to explore what is happening, recognize what matters, and choose how you want to respond.

For People Who Are Thoughtful About How They Live, and Still Encounter Moments That Are Difficult to Navigate Alone

You’ve reflected.

You’ve gathered information.

You’ve tried to understand what is happening.

And still, certain conversations, decisions, relationships, or patterns can leave you uncertain about what to do next.

That doesn’t mean you need another set of instructions.

If this sounds like you...

  • You keep replaying a conversation, wondering what happened or what you could have done differently.

  • You’re carrying a decision that affects more than one area of your life.

  • You know something needs your attention, but you haven’t found the words for it yet.

  • You’re trying to care for other people without losing sight of your own needs, limits, or values.

  • You want to respond thoughtfully, but strong emotions or competing responsibilities make that difficult in the moment.

  • You’re navigating a transition in your family, work, relationships, faith, or sense of purpose.

  • You want to understand yourself more clearly—not so you can judge or fix yourself, but so you can live with greater freedom and intention.

What You May Need Isn’t More Advice

You may need:

  • A steady person who will listen without rushing to a conclusion

  • Space to notice what is happening beneath the immediate situation

  • Support in the moments when your thoughts or emotions become difficult to untangle

  • A space to consider your relationships, responsibilities, values, and choices together

  • Honest reflection that helps you recognize what you may not be able to see alone

  • The freedom to explore without having to arrive with the right words

  • Support that responds to your actual life—not a formula, script, or predetermined outcome

  • Greater clarity about what belongs to you and how you want to move forward

You Don’t Need to Have Anything Sorted Out Before You Begin

Mentorship begins with what is present.

It may be a difficult conversation at work, a recurring tension at home, a volunteer role that has become complicated, a decision you can’t stop considering, or a quiet sense that something in your life needs to change.

These moments rarely stay contained within one category. What happens at work can affect how you show up at home. A family relationship can influence the way you understand yourself elsewhere. A commitment that once felt meaningful can raise new questions about your limits, priorities, or purpose.

Mentorship makes room for those connections.

You choose what to bring.

This is a relationship centered on you as a whole person—not only the role or situation that first brought you here.

What Becomes Possible Through Mentorship

It creates space for something deeper:

Greater awareness of what is happening within and around you

Recognition of patterns, needs, assumptions, and possibilities

More freedom to choose how you want to respond

Increased trust in your ability to navigate complex situations

A clearer understanding of your values, responsibilities, and limits

More intentional engagement in your relationships

Growth that can extend beyond the situation that first brought you to Mentorship

You may begin by trying to understand one particular moment.

Along the way, you may discover a different way of meeting your life.

Why I Believe in This Worko

For more than 25 years, I have walked alongside people through seasons of growth, responsibility, uncertainty, and change.

In classrooms, schools, families, faith communities, and quiet one-to-one conversations, I have seen how easily thoughtful people begin to question themselves when the situations they are carrying become difficult to untangle.

Often, they don’t need someone to hand them another answer.

They need a place where they can speak honestly, recognize what is happening beneath the surface, and consider how they want to respond.

That is why I became a Certified Mentor.

I believe meaningful growth often begins in ordinary moments: the conversation you keep replaying, the reaction that surprises you, the responsibility that feels different than it once did, or the question you have not yet known how to ask.

Mentorship creates a place to stay with those moments long enough for greater clarity, freedom, and possibility to emerge.

Mentorship

A Steady Relationship for the Real Moments of Your Life

For adults who want a confidential place to explore what they are experiencing and engage their lives and relationships with greater clarity, agency, and intention.

What Mentorship Looks Like Day to Day

Mentorship is a steady dialogue woven into your real life.

Through voice messages, you can share what is present while it is still fresh—a difficult interaction, a decision you’re considering, something you noticed about yourself, or a question that has begun to surface.

You don’t need to prepare what you are going to say or wait until you understand it completely. Some messages may begin with a clear question. Others may begin with, “I’m not sure what is happening, but I need to talk it through.”

I listen and respond with care and intention, helping you slow down, notice what may be happening beneath the surface, and recognize the choices available to you.

As the conversation continues, one moment can connect to another. Patterns become easier to recognize. New questions emerge. The understanding you develop in one area of life may begin to shape how you approach another.

There is no curriculum to keep up with or predetermined path to follow. Mentorship grows through an ongoing conversation shaped by you and the life you are actually living.

What Makes Mentorship Work

three essential elements:

Daily voice-message support

Personalized guidance

Growth that meets your real life

#1

Daily Voice-Message Support

Mentorship is more than an occasional conversation. It is a relationship that develops through an ongoing rhythm of dialogue.

You can speak while an experience is still fresh rather than waiting weeks to recall it in a scheduled session. That gives us the opportunity to notice what is happening as you are actually living it.

What daily support looks like:

  • Up to 15 minutes of voice messages from you each weekday

  • A response from me within 24 hours, Monday through Friday

  • The freedom to speak when it fits your schedule

  • Space to bring questions, reactions, decisions, realizations, or ordinary moments

  • An ongoing conversation that can deepen as your awareness and circumstances change

This is steady support that meets you in the present while making room for continued growth.

#2

Personalized Guidance

There's no one-size-fits-all process here.

Mentorship is shaped around you: your experiences, relationships, responsibilities, values, questions, and present circumstances.

You guide what we explore and the pace at which we explore it. My role is not to prescribe a path for your life. It is to listen, ask thoughtful questions, offer grounded reflections, and help you recognize more fully what is happening.

What personalized guidance looks like:

  • Begins with what matters to you

  • Responds to what you are navigating from day to day

  • Makes room for multiple areas of your life

  • Helps you notice what may be operating beneath the immediate situation

  • Offers reflection without imposing a formula or predetermined outcome

  • Respects your freedom, dignity, values, and responsibility for your choices

  • Allows the conversation to evolve as you do

You are not following a predetermined system. The work responds to who you are and what you are actually living. You are being accompanied as you become more able to see, choose, and act with intention.

#3

Growth That Meets Your Real Life

Mentorship is not about fixing everything overnight.

It is about developing a rhythm of awareness, recognition, and choice that can shape how you engage your life and relationships.

Over time, Mentorship can help you:

  • Recognize patterns without reducing yourself to them

  • Pause and notice what is happening before responding automatically

  • Understand your emotions, needs, responsibilities, and relationships more clearly

  • Distinguish between what you can control and what you cannot

  • Make decisions with greater freedom and intention

  • Communicate more honestly and thoughtfully

  • Approach relational friction with curiosity instead of immediate judgment

  • Carry what you learn from one situation into other areas of your life

The goal is not to make you dependent on someone else’s answers.

It is to help you grow in your capacity to engage your own life with greater clarity, agency, and intention.

That is the heart of Mentorship: a relationship that helps you recognize more clearly who you are, what is happening, and how you want to respond.

Can Mentorship Help Me Understand What’s Stirring?

Sometimes, something outside of us stirs something within us.

It may happen during a workshop or retreat, in a conversation with a stranger, while listening to a podcast, scrolling through social media, or watching a scene in a movie. Something stays with you. It touches a question, tension, hope, or part of yourself that may have been waiting for your attention.

You may discover Mentorship through that experience—or through your work, an organization, a parenting resource, or someone who knows you.

Whatever opens the door may be where the conversation begins, but it does not have to define where it goes.

You choose what to bring into Mentorship. There is room to explore parenthood, marriage, friendships, work, leadership, faith, volunteer responsibilities, personal transitions, or something you are still trying to understand.

Mentorship gives you space to stay with what is stirring, recognize what it may be revealing, and consider how you want to respond.

Hi, I'm Cathie!

Cathie Swanson

Certified Mentor

For more than 25 years, I have worked alongside students, parents, educators, leaders, and families through seasons of learning, challenge, change, and growth.

During those years, I did more than teach. I listened. I stood in hallways after difficult days, supported people through uncertain moments, facilitated challenging conversations, and helped individuals and groups recognize what was happening beneath the surface.

My experience includes teaching middle school, supporting children with additional needs, mentoring educators, partnering with parents, accompanying people through spiritual discernment, and navigating organizational responsibilities and transitions.

Now, as a Certified Mentor in the CatholicPsych Model of Applied Personalism, I bring that same steady attention to Mentorship.

I will not arrive with a script for your life. I will meet you with curiosity, honest reflection, and respect for your dignity, freedom, and capacity to grow.

If you are ready for a confidential place to explore what is happening in your life, I would be honored to walk with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

You don't have to know everything before you begin.

These FAQs are here to help you feel more

clear, confident, and comfortable

before taking the next step.

What is Mentorship, exactly?

Mentorship is an ongoing, one-to-one relationship that helps you engage what is happening in your life with greater awareness, clarity, agency, and intention.

Through regular voice-message dialogue, you have space to share what you are experiencing, reflect on what may be happening beneath the surface, and consider how you want to respond.

This approach is rooted in the CatholicPsych model of Integrated Dialogic Daily Mentorship (IDDM) which sees the whole person - not just their role as a parent.

What kind of support will I get - and how does the voice messaging work?

We use the voice messaging app called Voxer, which is a walkie-talkie, but smarter and more private. You speak when you're ready; I listen and respond within 24 hours, Monday through Friday.

You don't need to block out time or sit down for a session. You can leave a message while driving to work, walking the dog, or finding a quiet moment after the kids go to bed.

Whether you're reflecting on a breakthrough, reacting to something unexpected, or simply unraveling a moment that didn't go the way you hoped - this is where you can process in real time, and receive thoughtful, grounded support in return.

How much time does this take each day?

You have up to 15 minutes per day to use however you want. This might mean sending one longer message, or breaking it into a few quick updates throughout the day. Some days, you might have a lot to process. Other days, you might just need to check in.

There's no pressure to use every minute, and the rhythm can shift as your needs do.

How is this different from therapy or coaching?

You don't need a diagnosis. You don't need a 12-step system.

You need someone who actually sees you - and helps you stay grounded in the middle of everything life throws your way.

It's not therapy that mines your past.

It's not coaching that maps your future.

It's an ongoing relationship with a trained mentor who's right there with you - in the present moment - helping think through the hard moments, make decisions with confidence, and growing into the kind of parent you want to be.

It's for the real-life stuff: the awkward conversations, the emotional spirals, the second-guessing after a blow-up.

It's not about fixing you. It's about helping you be you - with clarity, calm, and connection.

The word Catholic comes up a lot - should that matter to me?

You'll see references to Catholic language here because I'm certified through the CatholicPsych Institute, which trains mentors to serve the whole person - emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and relationally.

That said, this isn't religious membership. There's no expectations that you share my beliefs.

This is a space for you to be seen, heard, and supported - without pressure, preaching, or performance.

If your faith is important to you, it's welcome here. If it's not a focus right now, that's okay too. This mentorship starts with you.

What if I don't know what to say?

That's actually the perfect place to start.

This isn't about having the right words - it's about having a space where you can stop holding it all together.

You can show up overwhelmed, unsure, or just stuck in your head. I'll meet you there. This mentorship is a real-time conversation - back and forth voice messages that help you process what's happening, clarify what matters, and decide what to do next.

Whether it's a blow-up with your child, a moment you're replaying in your head, or something deeper you didn't expect to surface...you don't have to sort it alone.

You just have to show up. I'll walk with you from there.

Is there a minimum time commitment?

This mentorship is month-to-month. There's no long-term contract, no pressure to commit beyond what you need. You can step away at the end of any month cycle.

That said, real growth takes time - and most parents stay longer than they expected. Not because they have to, but because it's helping

This isn't a one-and-done fix. It's a space to slow down, process what's actually happening, and shift how you're showing up - day by day, conversation by conversation.

You're not locked in. But once you feel the difference - less reactivity, more clarity, deeper connection - you'll understand why so many choose to stay.

What if my situation feels too specific - or too small - for mentorship?

You don't have to be in crisis to reach out.

This mentorship is for parents navigating the emotional storms, awkward moments, and quiet worries of raising a child through the puberty years - but it's also for the deeper questions that can surface along the way.

Maybe what you're carrying feels hard to name.

Maybe it feels too personal - or not "big enough" to bring up.

Maybe you're wondering if it even counts.

It does.

This is a space to sort through whatever's coming up for you - whether it's a parenting pattern, a moment that won't leave your head, or a shift in how you see yourself. If it matters to you, it matters here.

Can I talk about things beyond parenting?

Yes - because parenting doesn't happen in isolation.

Your identity isn't limited to "mom" or "dad," and this mentorship is designed to support you - the whole person. If what's weighing on you is about work, marriage, friendship, faith, or just the quiet of feeling of "I don't feel like myself lately," it's welcome here.

We start with parenting, because that's where the tension shows up.

But if we're going to strengthen how you show up for your child, we also have to make space for what's showing up in you.

This mentorship helps you connect the dots, clear the noise, and navigate it all with more clarity, calm, and confidence.

Is this confidential?

Yes. Your privacy matters - and your story is safe here.

Mentorship is built on trust. Everything you share in our conversation stays private.

And with the voice messaging app's end-to-end encryption, your messages are secure from the moment you send them.

You can speak freely - knowing your words are both protected and respected.

oPerhaps something in your life keeps asking for your attention.

A relationship feels different.

A responsibility has become heavier.

A decision continues to follow you.

Or you sense that the way you have been responding no longer reflects the way you want to live.

oYou do not need to arrive with a finished explanation.

oYou only need a place to begin.o

Let’s have a conversation about what is happening, what you are looking for, and whether Mentorship feels like the right kind of support.
